Most people think of OCD as a negative. At Lotus, we think of it as a positive. Our relentless OCD means refusing to be satisfied with "really good" or "almost perfect" especially with bearings and axles. There are far too many dead bearings and subpar axles that are plaguing the yo-yo market. Often, brand-new yo-yos are most impacted.  

It began as a search for perfection, bearings and axles built exclusively for modern yo-yo that would outperform and outlast anything on the market. The process took almost two years- quite literally every major brand was examined and tested extensively. Unfortunately perfection did not exist. So we created it from the ground up.

Today's yo-yos​

Modern yo-yos have come a long way since the days of plastic or wooden fixed axle throws. Currently there are countless companies offering everything from responsive beginner yo-yos all the way to unresponsive competition level bimetals. Almost all yo-yos are made out of different grades of aluminum. There are near limitless diameters, widths, shapes, profiles, and weights to suit every player. The only two things that any of these yo-yos have in common are the use of a ball bearing and an axle. ​​

HERE LIES THE PROBLEM

No matter the range of cost, no matter the design or materials used to manufacture the yo-yo, practically all current yo-yos use the same bearings and same axles.​​

what this means

It doesn't matter if you spent $10 buying your first unresponsive aluminum yo-yo on Amazon or $200 on a competition grade bimetal from a specialty yo-yo store, chances are both yo-yos have the identical bearing and axle. In real world terms that would be like looking at a $100,000 luxury car and a $15,000 economy car and discovering they both have the same engine. Crazy right?

Does it really matter though?

Yes. It does. A lot.
